I graduated from Loma Linda University, La Sierra College of Arts and Sciences in 1984 with a BA in Religion and as a recipient of multiple Dean's List awards.
In 1987, I obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Houston's Law Center and was inducted to the Honorary Legal Fraternity of Phi Kappa Phi, awarded to those who make the top 25% of their class. That same year, I was admitted to practice law in the State of California, and the following year was admitted to practice in the United States District Courts, for the Central and Southern Districts of California.
While an associate attorney at the Los Angeles based law firm of Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard & Smith, LLP, I landed my first account representing an Inland Empire based mortgage warehouse lender on a multimillion-dollar RICO claim. I developed an expertise in loan repurchase and loan fraud litigation. I was then hired by a Colorado based title company, and began handling the gamut of title claims including easement litigation, mechanic lien claims, mortgage fraud, borrower fraud, falsified deeds, and alleged lender fraud in origination of loans.
Three years and one month after joining Lewis, I became a partner with the firm but could not resist the invitation to join the then national law firm of Arter & Haden LLP, working out of its Irvine office. There, I only represented lenders and loan servicers on commercial foreclosures, including receivership work, deficiency litigation, mortgage litigation and real estate litigation.
Over the years, I developed an expertise in business and real estate litigation and in 2007, was elected by my peers to receive, and was awarded the prestigious Top Southern California Lawyers award, as published in the Los Angeles Magazine's Super Lawyer Section.
I was also general and litigation counsel to one of the 500 fastest growing companies in the country for six straight years, as determined by Inc. Magazine. In 2019, I represented that client, a provider of medical services, against a claim by the State of California Department of Insurance, and a very large Mexican health insurance company. After a month and a half jury trial, my team secured a defense verdict against a $10.5M claim for insurance fraud, saving the company from certain demise. Within the next six months, I secured a $1.2M judgment in favor of that same company, helping it survive the effects of the pandemic.
I also handled a multi-month bench trial involving over 10,000 pages of documents related to a real estate partnership dissolution and dispute. I prevailed all the way up to the California Supreme Court.
Both as an attorney at large and boutique firms, and practicing solo, I have done extensive law and motion, prepared for and personally tried bench and jury trials. I know what has to be done to prepare for trial in terms of written discovery and through aggressive law and motion.
